An Important Post for Dr. Rima Staugas
Dr. Rima Staugas
The newly appointed chief executive of the Children, Youth and Women’s Health Service (CYWHS) in Adelaide is Lithuanian heritage Dr. Rima Staugas. CYWHS was set up in 2004 and the service brings together two nationally recognised organisations: Women’s and Children’s Hospital & Child and Youth Health. The former is South Australia's main specialist centre for acutely ill children and the state's largest maternity hospital, while Child and Youth Health is the state's leading provider of parenting support and community-based child and youth health services
South Australia’s Health Minister John Hill said that Dr. Staugas’ strong clinical background gave her "a unique perspective on managing a health service and hospital". Dr. Staugas said: "Good service planning is critical, and this is where the focus of significant activity will be over the coming year".
Dr. Staugas is a clinical lecturer at University of Adelaide and is the president of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, the first woman and paediatric physician to be so elected. She is active on national committees related to health.
