Lithuania’s Ričardas Berankis and Poland’s Urszula Radwanska have been declared as the 2007 Junior World Champions by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) at its meeting in Paris, France, last Monday 17/12/07. They shared the centre stage with tennis stars Roger Federer of Switzerland and Justine Henin of Belgium, who became the ITF World Champions for 2007.
It has been an outstanding year for the rising tennis star from Lithuania, during which he won the US Open junior championship in September and this December won the junior championships - Orange Bowl Tennis Championship 2007 in Florida, USA, and the 21 Copa Mundial Yucatan tournament in Mexico, winning both singles and doubles. Ričardas Berankis has been coached by Roger Federer.
The tennis world has not seen a Lithuanian name figure so prominently since the late Vitas Gerulaitis was a tennis star in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, winning the Australian Open in 1977.
