Lithuania’s leaders continue to be noticed on the world stage. A few days ago the President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, was listed by the influential “Time” magazine as among the top 10 female leaders in the world. She joins the company of Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, also included in the list.
This is not the first time that President Grybauskaitė was noted as a leader of world standing by the international community. At the end of last year President Grybauskaitė was voted as the 6th most popular political leader in Europe by the influential French daily ”La Tribune”. Earlier in 2005, before she became President, she was voted as the European Union Commissioner of the Year. President Grybauskaitė’s predecessor as president, Valdas Adamkus, was also recognised as a statesman of international standing by being honoured as the European of the Year in 2007.
