Lithuanian volunteers honoured at the
Community Visitors Scheme ceremony November 28, 2003
Ann (Ona) Kapočius and seven other Lithuanian ladies from the Sydney Lithuanian Women’s
Social Services Association were honoured by the Community Visitors Scheme of the Central
Sydney Area Health Service at a ceremony at the University of Sydney on Friday,
November 28, 2003.
The function was opened by the Hon. Julie Bishop M.P., Minister for Ageing, and celebrated
10 years of the Scheme, which involves more than 6500 volunteers in 160 community-based
organisations helping older Australians.

Ann was one of the very few volunteers honoured for 10 years of dedicated service.
The booklet "With My Heart in My Palm" launched at the function describes the work of the
Central Sydney Area Health Service and features Ann Kapočius on the front cover. Ann has
been a very active member of the Sydney Lithuanian Women’s Social Services Association and
has been devoted to the care of elderly Lithuanians for many years. The leading article in
the booklet is also about Ann's life and work.
