Lithuania to Appoint an Ambassador to Australia

Mr. Dainius Kamaitis, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Japan and the Philippines, is also to become Lithuania’s ambassador to Australia. He will continue to reside in Japan. Lithuania and Australia opened diplomatic relations on November 6, 1991, but so far there has not been a Lithuanian ambassador appointed for Australia, with Lithuania’s diplomatic representations in Australia being at the consular level. Lithuanian’s first Honorary Consul in Australia was Prof. Algis Kabaila. Currently Lithuania has two Honorary Consuls General in Australia - Mr. Viktoras Ðliteris in Sydney and Mr. Andrew Þilinskas in Melbourne.
Mr. Kamaitis was born in Kaunas in 1965 and in 1987 graduated in Architecture from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. After working as an architect for five years he joined the diplomatic service in 1992 and became Lithuania’s ambassador to Japan in 2006. He is fluent in Lithuanian, English, Japanese and Russian, and is knowledgeable in Korean and French. In 2003 he was honoured by Lithuania with the Knight’s Cross Order for "Services to Lithuania".
