The late Stepas Jarembauskas
The Lithuanian community in Sydney was saddened by the death of Stepas Jarembauskas on 3rd November, 2006, two months
short of 103 years. He would have been possibly the oldest Australian Lithuanian at this time. A Requiem Mass was
celebrated for him on November 8th at St.Joachim’s Catholic Church, Lidcombe, followed by cremation at Rookwod Crematorium
and a wake at Sydney Lithuanian Club, Bankstown. Stepas Jarembauskas is survived in Australia by his nephew, Arvydas Rupðys,
and his family. He was farewelled by a group of friends and relatives, who only three years ago on his 100th Anniversary
honoured him with a party at the Sydney Lithuanian Club (Please see News Archive for 01/01/2004).

Stepas was born in Lithuania and in 1948 migrated to Australia with his wife, Bronislava, who predeceased him a few years
ago. A civil engineer by profession, he retired from the Sydney Water Board in 1964. He generously supported many
Lithuanian causes in Australia and Lithuania. The Australian Lithuanian community has lost a valued member, who always
showed a positive attitude to life, whose cheerful disposition never left him and who to the very end had an active
interest in the world around him, especially things mathematical and scientific.
Stepas, the Sydney Lithuanian community will miss you!
