The First International Space Conference in Lithuania, SEMW2010 (Space Economy in the Multipolar World), was held earlier this month October 6-8, 2010, in Lithuania’s capital Vilnius. Attending the conference where delegates from NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), UNOOSA (United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs), ESPI (European Space Policy Institute), IAF (International Astronautical Federation) and other organisations.
Organised by Lithuanian Space Association, Vilnius University and Kaunas University of Technology, under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy, conference sessions were held at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, the Crowne Plaza Vilnius Hotel and the Lithuanian Ethno-Cosmology Museum near Molėtai. The Ethno-Cosmology Museum, originally an outgrowth of Vilnius University Astronomical Observatory and located not far from it, is the only museum of this nature in the world and attracts many visitors.
A highlight of the conference was the signing of an agreement between Lithuania and the European Space Agency (ESA) concerning space cooperation for peaceful purposes.
