The Australian Lithuanian wilderness photographer Olegas Truchanas.
The life and work of the famous Australian Lithuanian explorer and photographer Olegas Truchanas will be remembered on the Wildness program on ABC TV, Sunday, August 24, 2003, at 9.25pm.
Olegas Truchanas was born in Lithuania and settled in Tasmania after the Second World War. He became famous as an intrepid explorer of the Tasmanian wilderness and a moving force in the Tasmanian environmental movement, becoming a councillor of the Australian Conservation Foundation. The exquisitely beautiful book "The World of Olegas Truchanas" by Max Angus, first published in 1975, became a celebrated book and has gone through numerous reprintings.
