The World’s Strongest Man, Lithuanian Þydrûnas Savickas, Triumphs in Australia

Þydrûnas Savickas is a Lithuanian who currently holds the title of 2009 World’s Strongest Man. After a string of 10 international strongman victories this year already, he just competed December 4 - 6, 2009 in the Ultimate Strongman Championships in Australia, held at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast and at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Brisbane. Competing in a field of 14 strongmen from 9 countries Þydrûnas Savickas got top billing and again achieved an outstanding victory, further confirming him as the world’s strongest man. over three days there were strongmen competing from Lithuania, Australia, USA, New Zealand, Iceland, Estonia, UK, South Africa and Russia. The 194cm tall 190 kg Þydrûnas achieved an overall score of 77.0, which was 7.5 points ahead of his nearest rival, the American Travis Ortmayer.
In Lithuania Þydrûnas has just been voted as the most outstanding athlete for November. He has won every major strongman competition in the world, including the prestigious invitation-only Arnold Classic Strongman Championship six times, bettering many world records on the way. Just last month in Lithuania he bettered his own log lift world record by 2.5kg.
