Lithuania Signs Strategic Partnership Agreement with France

President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy on September 4, 2009, signed a historic strategic partnership agreement, which will lead to French and Lithuanian cooperation on a number of issues.
France and Lithuania agreed to work towards a number of common goals. These include work on the EU Eastern Partnership Initiative, working towards a strengthened European Security and Defence Policy, developing military forces in Europe and strengthening the European defence technological and industrial base. Energy policy was also discussed. France agreed to the importance of integrating Lithuanian energy into the EU energy market as soon as possible. There will be increased cooperation between Lithuania and France in the area of nuclear energy.
During her working visit to France President Grybauskaitė also delivered a paper at the meeting of the French Business Confederation MEDEF (Mouvement des Entreprises de France). MEDEF is the largest business organisation in France.
