The 27th Australian Lithuanian Days (Australijos Lietuvių Dienos - ALD) Festival last year was commendably hosted by Adelaide. It was held at the end of 2012 over the Christmas - New Year period. The Festival is a biennial event and encompasses Australian Lithuanian cultural and sports activities together with a meeting of the Australian Lithuanian Community Federal Council, which is the supreme decision making body of the Australian Lithuanian Community (ALC).
The ALC Federal Council at its meeting voted for the 2013–14 ALC Federal Executive to reside in Melbourne, with Gabrielius Žemkalnis as the new Federal Executive President. Other Federal Executive members elected were Viva Alekna, Algis Kairaitis, Lilija Kozlovskienė and Dr Rasa Ruseckaitė. Sydney was selected to host the next Australian - Lithuanian Cultural and Sports Festival in 2014.
A week full of activities included Song and Folk Dance festivals, a Literature and Music afternoon, Art exhibitions, a Youth Talent night, sporting competitions and a New Year’s Ball to cap all the activities. The Festival was very ably organised and run by the ALD Adelaide Committee under the chairmanship of Gaila Paškevičienė. It was a most enjoyable occasion for all.
