On November 21 the ambassador presented to Kaunas Botanical Gardens of Vytautas Magnus University a young Wollemi pine specimen. The Wollemi pine is a very rare tree species discovered only in 1994 in the Wollemi National Park in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. Up to that time it was thought to have been extinct for near 100 million years. In the wild only 40 adult and 200 juvenile plants exist. A fully grown Wollemi pine can reach 40 metres in height and be a metre in diameter. The Kaunas Botanical Gardens were most delighted to receive such a rare gift.
