Sydney Lithuanian Club "Dainava" Reopens in New Premises
View from Meredith Street
A couple of weeks ago was the occasion that the Sydney Lithuanian Community has been eagerly waiting for nearly a year. That was the reopening of the Sydney Lithuanian Club in its modern new premises at 16-20 Meredith Street, Bankstown. The new Club was ready for the Club’s Annual General Meeting on Sunday, September 17, 2006, when nearly a hundred members

gathered to discuss the Club’s affairs and to meet the newly elected Club Committee.
The original Club was also located in Bankstown, about a kilometer away from the new Club. An ageing community and changing circumstances over the years necessitated selling the old Club premises and seeking something more suitable. The old Club finally closed its doors at the end of November 2005. The new Club now occupies the complete ground floor of a multi-story building in Meredith Street.
Before and after the AGM community members had the opportunity to try out the new restaurant "Europa", serving Lithuanian and Australian dishes - many were impressed with the standard of the cuisine. Others sampled refreshments from the bar. Prize winning Lithuanian beers and other Lithuanian liquors will very soon be available at the Club.
