During the conference President Grybauskaitė declared that the Munich Conference is very important to Lithuania, as well as to the rest of the world. She deplored attempts to divide Europe into geographical sectors of defence. “We are just counting two decades since there are no dividing lines on Europe's map. It would be difficult to explain to Lithuanians why we need new divisions", she declared. In acknowledgement of her impressive opening address, a large bouquet of flowers was presented to her by Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, chairman of the Munich Security Conference.
