The fourth NVArt competition winner was announced on April 28, 2009 and the winner was the 26-year old Lithuanian computer graphics artist Gediminas Pranckevičius. This international competition had attracted 400 entries from artists from 65 countries. It was organised by the international Computer Graphics Society and the multi-national company NVIDIA, which specialises in graphics processor technologies.
The challenge for the fourth NVArt competition was to create surrealistic images in the style of Jacek Yerka, the famous Polish surrealist artist. Pranckevičius’ winning entry, titled “Time”, drew the following comment from Lorne Lanning, one of the competition judges: “A beautiful work that leaves the viewer with endless possibilities that lie past our initial, surreal impression.” First prize was $10,000 (US) and two NVIDIA processors worth $7,000 (US).
