Lithuanian Students World Champions in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2005 Competition
"Nesnausk!" team receiving first prize
A team of Lithuanian students have just been announced world champions in the Imagine Cup 2005 student programming competition organised by "Microsoft". The Lithuanian team "Nesnausk!", with their three dimensional computer generated animated graphics work, shared first place with the team from China in the Rendering category, one of the nine categories in the competition.
Winning 3-D graphics from the "Nesnausk!" team
"Nesnausk!" consisted of Aras Pranckevičius (Kaunas University of Technology), Paulius Liekis (Kaunas University of Technology), Antanas Balvočius (Vytautas Magnus University) and Raimundas Juđka (Vilnius University). The "Nesnausk!" team had also won second place in last year’s Imagine Cup competition held in Brazil. (By the way - "Nesnausk" means "don’t be dozy"!)
The Imagine Cup competition is now running for the third year and this year attracted over 16,000 competitors from 92 countries. The finals this year were held in Yokohama, Japan, from July 27 to August 1, with over 200 students from over 40 countries competing in the finals. Also among this year’s winners was Australian John Dethridge from Melbourne University, who won third place in the Algorithm category.
