Lithuanian Actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė to Star in Sydney Festival

This year’s Sydney Festival, in association with Sydney Symphony, will present the play “THE GIACOMO VARIATIONS” at the Sydney Opera House 19-22 January 2011. It will feature the noted Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė, playing with the world famous actor John Malkovich.
“THE GIACOMO VARIATIONS” is a chamber opera play based on the life and times of Giacomo Casanova, the legendary 18th century womanizer and adventurer. The play is written and directed by Michael Sturminger with music from Mozart’s operas, performed by Martene Grimson (soprano) and Andrei Bondarenko (baritone) and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martin Haselböck.

Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1963. In 1985 she graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and began her acting career at the Kaunas State Drama Theatre, which led to an extensive acting career in films, TV and theatre in Lithuania, Russia and England. Her best known European film is the 1994 film “Burnt by the Sun”, which received the Grand Prize at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival in which she received critical acclaim for her leading female role.
