Lithuanians in South America Make their Mark
The Lanin de Oro award
for the best 2006-2007
Argentinean radio programme
for non-Spanish speakers.

The Lithuanian language radio programme "Ecos de Lituania" ("Echoes of Lithuania"), broadcasting from the city of Berisso in Argentina, has been winning accolades for the best radio programme broadcasting to Argentina’s ethnic communities. The most recent award was the "Lanin de Oro" ("Golden Lanin", Lanin being the name of a volcano) for the best ethnic communities radio programme in 2006-2007. The radio programme has now won five awards and has been listed as

an important cultural heritage programme by various cities and bodies. It has also received a special award from the Department of National Minorities and Lithuanians Abroad in Lithuania.
The radio programme is broadcast every Sunday from 7pm to 9 pm. It has now been broadcasting over 30 years. The programme director is Juan Ignacio Fourment Kalvelis. Among his many Lithuanian community activities, he is also the World Lithuanian Youth Association representative for South America and teaches at the Lithuanian Weekend Language School in Berisso.
