Sydney Lithuanians have been thrilled to hear that Sydney Festival 2013 will be featuring the composition “Sandglasses” by the outstanding, young Lithuanian composer Justė Janulytė. “Sandglasses” is an enthralling work for cellos and multimedia and will be performed on January 12, 2013, at City Recital Hall, Angel Place. It has been much applauded in many concerts and festivals in Europe.
Australian Festivals now regularly feature Lithuanian arts groups and artists. The Melbourne International Arts Festival saw the renowned Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra performing there the 2011, while the Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre (OKT) performed there in 2008 to critical and popular acclaim. Not to be forgotten is the appearance at the 2011 Adelaide International Cello Festival of the celebrated Lithuanian-born master cellist and conductor David Geringas, who was the star attraction at this festival and the Lithuanian eminent composer Anatolijus Šenderovas was the featured composer.
