Lithuanian dancepsort champions Edita Daniūtė and Arunas Bižokas just recently on January 13, 2007, have won gold at the IDSF (International Dance Sport Federation) European Standard Championship in Madrid, Spain. Their victory follows on from their success last November, 2006, in Aarhus, Denmark, where they became world champions in IDSF World Amateur Standard championship. In Madrid the silver went to Paolo Bosco and Silvia Pitton (Italy) and the bronze to Benedetto Ferrugia and Claudia Köhler (Germany).
Another Lithuanian couple, Donatas Vėželis and Lina Chatkevičiūtė, came ninth among the 59 pairs of dancers in the competition. All the Lithuanian dancers belong to the "Sūkurys" club in Kaunas. Edita and Arūnas now are training very hard for British Open Dance Championship, to which all the world’s elite ballroom dancers come.
