President Dalia Grybauskaitė of Lithuania has been voted as the 6th most popular political leader in Europe by the influential French daily La Tribune. In popularity she was ahead many noted politicians, such as French President Nicolas Sarkozy (9) and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown (21). The top ranking was obtained by Sweden's Fredrik Reinfeldt, followed Luxembourg’s Jean-Claude Juncker, Germany’s Angela Merkel and Danish and Finnish prime ministers. Last year Lithuania’s president at the time, Valdas Adamkus, had been voted as 12th.
This is not the first time that Lithuania’s Presidents Grybauskaitė and Adamkus have been ranked high within the European Union. In 2005 Dalia Grybauskaitė was voted as the EU Commissioner of the Year and in 2007 President Adamkus was honoured as the European of the Year.
